Acne Vaccinations

Acne Vaccinations – Years Away – You Still Have Options

The news that Acne Vaccinations may soon be available has generated a lot of interest from our patients and practitioners.
An article in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology entitled Vaccinating against Acne: Benefits and Potential Pitfalls has been widely reported.  According to one commentator, Get The Gloss, “The vaccine has so far proved successful for inhibiting inflammatory responses in tests in mice and ex vivo in human skin cells but further trials are required to assess potential side effects and formulate a safe, effective vaccine for use in humans.”
The proposed vaccine is many years away and may never reach the market. So what can you do in the meantime?
At La Belle Forme, our healthcare practitioners have special interests in treating acne. We have several treatment options for both active acne and acne scarring. Acne issues can include;

Acne Vaccine

In the future, we may have a vaccine to immunise ourselves against these bacteria. Right now, we have blue light laser and IPL treatments which kill the bacteria that cause acne. We can also treat acne with medium to long-term antibiotics after a consultation with a medical prescriber.

We can treat the acute inflammatory response with soothing medical grade topical treatments, such as the ones we find in the Obagi system for acne treatment, our Hydrafacial systems and our Profacial systems.

We can unblock pores that encourage bacterial colonisation and cyst formation. We do this using a combination of in-clinic treatment with skin peels, hydrafacial, profacial treatments and home treatments with professional grade skin care products

Reducing sebum production can be performed with topical creams or prescription grade tablets or creams. We can use vitamin A analogues to help modify the sebaceous glands so that they reduce their oil production. The most effective treatments are prescription only products to treat acne, such as Tretinoin,, and are best discussed at a consultation.

Our aim, when we treat active acne, is to prevent acne scarring. Sadly, sometimes people get acne scarring.
We have several ways of treating scarring. These include laser resurfacing with a fractional CO2 laser, deep skin peels, microneedling and radiofrequency assisted micro needling (Intracel).
Occasionally, acne scarring can be masked using Micropigmentation – a semi-permanent tattooing that can cover blemishes.

This is a custom heading element.
