Joint Injections

Relieve Joint Pain

What are joint injections?

Joint injections are a minimally invasive procedure that can be used to treat a variety of joint conditions, including arthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis. During the procedure, our consultant will inject medication directly into the affected joint. This can help to reduce inflammation, and pain, and improve range of motion.

Joint Injections

Type of joint injections

Corticosteroid injections: Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs that can help to reduce pain and inflammation in the joint. Corticosteroid injections are typically used for short-term relief of joint pain and inflammation. These are usually performed with long or short-acting anaesthetics.

When are joint injections used?

Joint injections may be recommended for patients with a variety of joint conditions, including:

  • Arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and psoriatic arthritis)
  • Bursitis
  • Tendinitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Gout
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Other joint injuries and conditions

How are joint injections performed?

Joint injections are typically performed in or treatment room by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. The patient will be positioned in a way that makes the affected joint easily accessible. The surgeon will then clean the area around the joint and inject a local anesthetic to numb the area. Once the area is numb, the surgeon will insert a needle into the joint and inject the medication.

What are the risks and side effects of joint injections?

Joint injections are generally safe, but there are some risks and side effects associated with the procedure. These risks include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Nerve damage
  • Damage to the joint
  • Allergic reaction to the medication

The side effects of joint injections vary depending on the type of medication injected. Corticosteroid injections can cause side effects such as weight gain, fluid retention, and mood changes.

How long do joint injections last?

The duration of relief from joint injections varies depending on the type of medication injected and the underlying joint condition. Corticosteroid injections typically provide relief for several weeks to months.

Eyelids Surgery
Blepharoplasty

Complete confidence

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids to improve their appearance. The procedure can be performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is usually done to correct sagging or drooping eyelids that can give a person a tired or aged appearance. It can also help to remove under-eye bags or dark circles and create a more youthful and refreshed look.

Make an enquiry

There are several different types of facelifts and each varies according to what we do with the skin, and what we do with the underlying tissues (mainly the underlying muscles and fat pockets). In addition, the facelifts we do vary in the parts of the face they address – the upper, middle, or lower face (including the neck). At the same time, many people ask for their eyelids to look a little younger too (removing some of the hooding and bagginess), to make the eyes look less tired.

With so many variations and requests available, the consultation is paramount in determining your wishes and relating these to your particular features. At your consultation, we will discuss the right facelift for you and also talk about any additional treatments that will be of help. We will individualise your treatment to your face and your requirements.

From the age of around 40 onwards, the tissues of the face start showing signs of ageing. The main changes that we see in the ageing face can be considered in three main areas – the upper face, the mid face and the lower face. The upper face is located around the eyebrow and forehead region, the mid face around the cheeks, and the lower face around the jawline and neck. The skin also changes and becomes thinner, less elastic, develops age spots and we start to see wrinkles.

There are two types of wrinkles – dynamic and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles only appear when the facial muscles are being animated and static lines are present even at rest. The appearance of wrinkles first begins with dynamic lines, and these are often treated with botulinum toxins. Static lines, on the other hand, are sometimes best treated with fillers, such as those containing hyaluronic acid. For deep wrinkles that are present all the time, skin and muscle tightening procedures are sometimes the best treatment.

We see ageing changes in all three areas of the face (upper, middle and lower). We see descent of the soft tissues, loss of youthful fat, stretching of skin and the appearance of lines and wrinkles. In the upper face, the signs of ageing are seen with drooping of the eyebrows, the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead and between the eyebrows and in men there is loss of hair with male pattern baldness developing.

In the mid-face, we see descent of the fat in the upper part of the cheek, loss of some of the youthful fat around the eyes, the appearance of creases between the nose and lips, bulging of fat and stretching of skin around the eyelids. In the lower face, we see the appearance of jowls around the jaw line, the appearance of a double chin, prominent neck lines, fine lines around the mouth, thinner lips and neck muscles that have weakened and stretched. In fact, in all three areas, the muscles weaken and stretch and this is reflected in the overlying skin.

To rejuvenate the face, we need to address all these issues. Because everyone has different degrees of expression of the different effects of ageing, rejuvenating the face is a complex and unique procedure for each person considering it.

Woman posing at La Belle Forme - Glasgow Day Surgery Centre

If you are looking to change how your eyes look, La Belle Forme is able to offer you a comprehensive service that will be tailored to meet your individual needs. From initial consultations through to surgery and aftercare, you can rest assured that you will receive the very highest standards of care and support. As a leading UK cosmetic surgery group, we offer a full range of facial surgery procedures so rest assured that we will find the best solution to help you achieve your desired image.

While it can be a very exciting time prior to surgery it can also make for an anxious time too, and this is perfectly normal. At La Belle Forme, our surgeons take great care to carefully answer each and every question patients may have. We offer patients consultations from our Glasgow clinic.

The procedure involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelids to create a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference and the extent of the surgery. The surgeon will make incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids to minimize scarring.

For upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat from the eyelid, and may also tighten the underlying muscle. For lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon will either remove or redistribute excess fat and may also remove excess skin.

Once the excess tissue has been removed or repositioned, the surgeon will close the incisions with small sutures or surgical glue. The procedure typically takes about one to three hours to complete.

After the surgery, patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with medication and cold compresses. Most patients are able to return to work and other normal activities within one to two weeks.

Botox Aftercare

We want you to have the very best results from your Botox treatment and have written these after-care instructions to help you achieve this. We recommend the following:

  • Avoid touching, massaging, or any pressure on the treatment areas for the first 4 hours as this may change the placement of the Botox and cause undesirable effects. If you need to reapply makeup in the first 4 hours, do so gently.
  • You may experience some small red dots or minor bruising around the injection sites. This is normal and will generally fade after a few hours. If you are on aspirin or other blood-thinning medications, there is an increased risk of bruising which may also last longer. If you have any bruises, you can apply Arnica Gel or cream to the area.
  • Do not lie down for the first 4 hours in order to avoid the risk of pressure on the treatment areas.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol for at least the first 12 hours as it can contribute to bruising and swelling.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that might cause the Botox to be displaced (e.g. yoga) and sun exposure for the first 24 hours after your treatment.
  • Avoid having a facial for 24 hours.
  • Do not take any long-haul flights for 24 hours.

We hope that you will be happy with the result of your Botox treatment but the full effect of the treatment may take up to 5-6 weeks.

If this is your first Botox treatment at La Belle Forme, we will see you back in about 2 weeks to see the effect on your individual muscles and can make any refinements if necessary.

This will also help us to create an individualised treatment plan for you to get the very best results in future treatments. The duration of the treatment effect varies between individuals but can last up to 4 months. It cannot be repeated within 3 months.

When you notice the results of your Botox wearing off then please book another appointment for a repeat treatment.

If you have any questions or problems before we are next due to see you, please call the office on 0141 552 0828.

If you are extremely worried about a reaction to a treatment you can contact our emergency helpline on 07307792653

Skin Cancer Clinic Glasgow

Skin Cancer Clinic Glasgow

Skin Cancer Clinic

Skin Cancer Clinic

Dermatology

Skin Cancer Clinic

La Belle Forme is considered to be one of Scotland’s leading Dermatology clinics. Led by Consultant Surgeons,  we provide two core clinics within the Glasgow Day Surgery Centre, these include:

  • Skin Cancer Clinic
  • Mole Clinic

A unique aspect of our surveillance service is early intervention. In cases where we detect problems, which in some cases can be significant, immediate intervention can take place to cut out the area of concern. On the same day, the specimen has been removed, it is sent to a local lab, with results normally returned within 48 hours.

A brief description of the services we offer is listed below:

Skin Cancer Clinics

As many of us have moved towards a more active lifestyle with people taking up outdoor activities to improve their health and wellbeing, we have increased our risk of skin cancer. The main cause of skin cancers is exposure to damaging UV light that the sun produces and to which we are exposed on a daily basis. Other artificial sources of UV light, such as sunlamps and tanning beds, also increase your risk of developing skin cancer, as does repeated sunburn.

There are other contributory factors such as family history. Although it is not a major risk factor, some families have a higher than the average number of members who develop this condition. If this applies to you please undertake routine checks with a dermatologist.
As with any cancer, early detection and treatment are key. We offer a see-and-treat service where, if you have suspected skin cancer, you can meet with a dermatologist. If there is anything untoward a qualified plastic surgeon can excise (cut out) and suspicious lesions; and we can get the specimen to a local lab the same day. Test results are normally within 48 hours.
In most cases, we are pleased to say that lesions that are cut out are not malignant, but there is peace of mind in knowing that everything is OK.

Mole Clinics

Mole Clinics

Our Mole Clinic provides you with an assessment of moles and pigmented lesions you may be concerned about. In most cases, moles are just benign coloured growth on the surface of the skin and are nothing to worry about. Moles normally appear during childhood and adolescence and are normally stable in size and colour when you reach adulthood. If you have moles that start to change colour, size or become broken on the surface you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Unlike other mole clinics held in pharmacies or beauty salons, at our clinic, a surgeon will review your moles and investigate in detail any that may be of concern. As with our skin cancer clinic, these can be removed and sent for analysis the same day.

Procedures

  • Primary excision of malignant lesion – Head & Neck
  • Primary excision of malignant lesion – Trunk & Limbs
  • Curettage/cryotherapy of lesion of skin (including cauterisation)
  • Shave biopsy of lesion of skin
  • Biopsy of skin or subcutaneous tissue excision of lesion of skin or subcutaneous tissue –  Head & Neck (excluding lipoma)
  • Excision of lesion of skin or subcutaneous tissue – Trunk & Limbs (excluding lipoma)

FAQ

The majority of people who have breast augmentation are very happy with the results. However, there are risks with any procedure and there are specific problems you should be aware of with breast augmentations these include (but are not limited to):

  • Infection
  • Blood clots
  • Scarring
  • Asymmetry
  • Wound healing delays
  • Nipple hypersensitivity
  • Nerve injury leading to sensory reductions at the nipple
  • Size issues – some women feel they should have been made bigger or smaller after their augmentation procedure
  • Implant palpability
  • Implant wrinkling
  • Implant deflation (in cases of saline implants)
  • Implant migration and movement
  • Implant extrusion
  • Implant rotation (in cases of anatomic implants)
  • Difficulty with mammogram interpretation
  • Changes in the way breast lumps are investigated and treated
  • Capsular contraction (the formation of a hard painful or distorting area of scar tissue around the breast implant)
  • Silicone leakage (in cases of non-cohesive silicone gel implants)
  • Galactorrhoea (the inadvertent production of milk)
  • Further surgery: all implants have a lifespan that is limited and finite. In many cases, the patient lives longer than the implant. All women with breast implants should therefore prepare themselves for further surgery during the course of their life.
  • All the natural effects of having larger breasts – bra strap marks, drooping of the breast tissue with time, development of prominent veins, etc.

Your breast augmentation will probably be performed under general anaesthetic and you will probably stay at our daycare hospital until we feel you are comfortable enough to go home. When you do go home you will need to take painkillers for a few days until the discomfort settles down. The first day of the operation is the worst and you may well need help with day-to-day activities for a few days.

Some women still feel some twinges of discomfort for a few weeks after the operation, but most women are back to normal tasks within a few days. If you are taking time off work, you may be able to go back after a week and you can go back to high-impact activities after 4-6 weeks. Most women are back to doing most of their normal day to day tasks within a couple of days.

Choosing the right implant size is a matter of balancing what you already have with what you want and what we can use. We will measure you during your consultation and these measurements will determine the size of the implant we should use, the pocket placement (ie below the muscle or over the muscle) the shape of the implant, and the incision placement. Your surgeon will discuss the type of implants best suited for you.

The amount of nipple droop will also tell us whether you need to think about any other procedures to reshape the breast at the time of implant placement or at some other time in the future.

Although your surgeon will be able to give you a size that is roughly in keeping with what you want, there are usually never any guarantees of the exact size. In fact, different bra manufacturers will have different sizes to fit the same person.

All this means that you will usually be able to have a breast size roughly within the region of what you are hoping to achieve.

Your surgeon may perform various measurements as part of the consultation.
These measurements may include:

  • The distance between your nipple and the bone at the bottom of your neck
  • The width of the nipple-areolar-complex
  • The width of the breast itself
  • The distance between the two nipples
  • The distance between the nipple and the bottom of the breast
  • The amount of pull present within the skin of the breast
  • The thickness of the tissue at the top and sides of the breast
  • The height of the inframammary fold
  • The point along the chest wall where the breast begins to take off.

All these measurements will tell you and your surgeon what size of implant to use, what pocket to use, what incision to use, whether the same implants need to be used on each side, and whether there is already some degree of asymmetry between the two sides.

Breast implants don’t come in cup sizes, but they do come in volume or weight sizes. The bigger the implant, the greater the cup size increase you can expect to see after your operation. The bigger your bra bandwidth that you currently use, the bigger the implant size you will need to increase your cup size by one letter.
Different surgeons will use different ways of deciding together with you what’s best for your requirements. One way of deciding is to talk about implant dimensions. In other words, if we know how wide your breast already is, and if we know the measurements of the implants, then we can match this to how much of a size increase you want.

If you do not have enough pull of skin within your own breast, you may not be able to have as large an implant inserted as you may want. In these cases, you might need two operations to go bigger in stages. The vast majority of women, though, will be able to have a single operation to help them achieve their aims.

Most women want a very natural look and one that is in harmony and balance with the rest of their body shape and size, often wanting to look as if they haven’t had an operation, and also looking as if they don’t need an operation.
Some women, however, want a very enhanced look. In these cases, we can offer a range of expandable implants where the skin can be repeatedly stretched after the implant is inserted by pumping a salt water solution into the implants until the skin is stretched to its limits. This is then repeated until the desired size is achieved. If this is something you would like, please note that you will need to visit Glasgow probably around six or eight times for your consultation, surgery, and expansions.

With the newer ranges of breast implants, it is now possible to choose an implant based on desired projection, available skin for projection and current breast base dimensions. These “biodimensional” implants are also cohesive gel, carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, and can be used for greater choice and accuracy.

Skin laxity is determined at the time of consultation, the exact method best suited to you will be discussed during the consultation and a decision will be made together on how best to take things further.

Breast enlargement surgery is also known as breast augmentation, breast enhancement, inserting breast implants, and having a boob job. Currently, the most common means of breast augmentation is by inserting breast implants into the chest to make the breasts appear larger.

Breast implants come in three different varieties: the shape, the surface material texture, and the filler. All implants have a silicone outer coating and implants of each type come in various sizes.

Implant Shapes
Implants may be round or teardrop (anatomical) shaped. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages and the shape of the implant can be discussed at the time of the consultation.

Implant Textures
Implants can be smooth or textured. Textured implants have a rough surface and smooth implants have a smooth texture. Textured implants have a lower risk of developing capsular contracture, which is explained in the risks section.

Implant Fillers
Implants are commonly called silicone implants or saline implants and this refers to the fluid used to fill the implant. All implants have a silicone shell, but the filler material can differ. The most common filler materials we use nowadays are silicone or saline. Saline implants are filled with salt water at the time of the operation and a valve within the implant reduces the risk of saline leaking out of the implant causing deflation.

Silicone implants have been extensively tested for safety and an independent government report is available for you online. Different types of silicone are also available – some implants have thicker silicone within them, and the silicone will not leak out of the implant even if the implant ruptures.

Other implants use softer silicone gel. These implants are more affordable and feel softer but can potentially leak silicone into your breast. You can see a few of the different implant types at your consultation.

As part of the LBF aftercare policy, implants are covered by the manufacturer’s extended warranty against rupture and major capsular contracture which is for the life of the Patient.
This means that in the unlikely event that an implant ruptures or severe capsular contracture occurs within that time frame, LBF will replace implants free of charge within 3 years of undertaking the procedure. Outwith this period the implant supplier will supply replacement implants free of charge, however, there may be surgical fees charged to carry out the procedure.

Our 3-year warranty period applies to all surgical procedures and is conditional on the Patient attending all pre-operative assessments, undertaking all required tests, and having provided a comprehensive and accurate medical history prior to surgery.
Patients MUST attend all scheduled post-treatment appointment and comply with the surgeon’s guidance and instructions regarding post-operative care requirements, which includes but is not limited to, not tampering with wounds, not applying a non-standard dressing, not applying cream or medication to wounds that have not been indicated by LBF staff, etc.. Should a Patient fail to adhere to these requirements their warranty will be voided. Also, if the patient undertakes any further treatment or surgery within this period, which in the sole opinion of their surgeon, has compromised or altered the effectiveness or outcome of their procedure with LBF the warranty will be voided.

In the event that revision surgery is required the Patient should be aware that in some circumstances, there may be facility fees, surgeon fees, LBF fees, and anaesthetic fees.
