What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a minor surgical procedure designed to reshape or reduce excess tissue of the labia minora or labia majora. It is one of the most commonly requested intimate surgical procedures and can provide significant functional and aesthetic benefits for women experiencing physical discomfort, irritation or self-consciousness related to the size or shape of the labia.

Women of any age may be suitable candidates for labiaplasty — including those who have experienced changes following childbirth, weight fluctuation or hormonal shifts. There is no medical requirement to undergo the procedure, and the decision is entirely personal.

At La Belle Forme, labiaplasty is performed by experienced, GMC-registered surgeons in our HIS-regulated clinics across Scotland. During your consultation, we will explain how the procedure works, assess your suitability, and answer any questions about what to expect before, during and after surgery.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Labiaplasty at La Belle Forme is performed under local anaesthetic as a day-case procedure, typically taking between one and two hours.

  • The area is carefully numbed using a local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout
  • Small, precise incisions are made along the natural edges of the labia
  • Excess tissue is removed and the edges are smoothed and refined for a natural, balanced result
  • Dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions — no suture removal is required
  • You will be cared for in our clinical environment before returning home the same day

Our experienced surgeons use careful, discreet incision placement to minimise visible scarring and support a smooth, comfortable recovery.

Is Labiaplasty Right for Me?

Labiaplasty may be suitable if you:

  • Experience physical discomfort, chafing or irritation during exercise, daily activities or intimacy
  • Find that excess labial tissue affects the clothing you are able to wear comfortably
  • Have experienced changes to the labia following childbirth, weight changes or ageing
  • Feel self-conscious about the appearance of the labia and wish to address this
  • Are in good general health and have realistic expectations about the outcome

It is important that you feel fully informed and confident in your decision before proceeding. Your consultation at La Belle Forme is confidential, completely without obligation, and gives you the space to ask any questions you may have.

  • Reduces physical discomfort, chafing and irritation during daily activities and exercise
  • Improves comfort in clothing and during intimacy
  • Discreet, carefully placed incisions designed to minimise visible scarring
  • Day-case procedure — no overnight stay required
  • Dissolvable sutures — no return visit needed for removal
  • Confidential, private care at our HIS-regulated clinics across Scotland

Labiaplasty is a safe and commonly performed procedure. As with any surgery, there are small risks including temporary swelling, bruising or discomfort in the days following the procedure. In rare cases, infection or delayed healing may occur. Your surgeon will explain all potential risks, what to watch for during recovery, and how we support you throughout your healing journey at your pre-operative consultation.

FAQ's

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so discomfort during treatment is minimal. Some mild soreness and swelling in the days following the procedure is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
The procedure typically takes between one and two hours depending on the extent of tissue removal required.
Most patients return to light daily activities within one to two weeks. Full healing, including the resolution of swelling, typically takes four to six weeks. Strenuous exercise and sexual activity should be avoided for the full six-week recovery period.
Incisions are carefully placed along the natural edges of the labia to minimise visible scarring. Scars are typically small, discreet and fade gradually over time with appropriate aftercare.
The procedure targets excess tissue only. The clitoris and key nerve structures are not affected. Once healing is complete, sensation should remain unaffected.
Yes — many patients choose labiaplasty to address changes that occurred during pregnancy or childbirth. It is generally recommended to wait at least six months after giving birth and until you have fully healed before considering the procedure. Your surgeon will assess your suitability at consultation.
Yes. Labiaplasty is sometimes combined with other intimate surgical procedures. Your surgeon will discuss any combination options and their suitability during your consultation.
