What Is Male Breast Reduction?

Male breast reduction, or gynaecomastia surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that reduces excess fat and glandular tissue from the chest to create a flatter, firmer, and more masculine appearance.

At La Belle Forme in Glasgow, we offer surgical and non-surgical options to address gynaecomastia based on the underlying cause—whether it’s hormone-related, genetic, or due to weight changes. The procedure may involve liposuction, surgical excision, or a combination of both.

Each patient receives a thorough assessment and a customised surgical plan, designed to suit their anatomy, aesthetic goals, and health profile.

What Happens During Surgery?

During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your chest area and determine whether liposuction, gland removal, or both are required. You’ll receive advice on achieving the best possible outcome.

On the day of surgery, general or local anaesthesia is used. Small incisions are made around the nipple area and/or under the arms to remove excess fat and tissue. If necessary, the areola may also be resized or repositioned.

Once the chest is sculpted, incisions are closed and a compression garment is applied to support healing.

Most patients go home the same day and begin their recovery under the guidance of our expert team.

Is It Right for Me?

You may benefit from this surgery if you:

  • Have enlarged male breast tissue (gynaecomastia) affecting confidence or comfort
  • Struggle with stubborn chest fat that doesn’t improve with exercise or diet
  • Prefer a permanent surgical solution for a flatter, more masculine chest

Suitability will be assessed in a consultation, where your surgeon will consider your medical history, skin quality, and desired results.

  • Improved chest contour and body confidence
  • Permanent reduction of excess tissue with long-lasting results
  • Minimal scarring with hidden incisions
  • Performed by specialists in a regulated healthcare setting

While male breast reduction is generally safe, all surgeries carry potential risks, including:

  • Bruising, swelling, or temporary numbness
  • Mild discomfort or tightness during recovery
  • Scarring or uneven results (rare)
  • Fluid accumulation or changes in nipple sensitivity (rare)

These will be fully explained by your surgeon before the procedure, and all steps are taken to minimise risk.
